Books Like Twilight (Young Adults)

Are you a fan of the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer? Are you looking for books like Twilight? Here are some books that I think are very like Twilight.

The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith

The series is about Elena Gilbert, a human high school girl who is torn between two vampire brothers Stefan and Damon. Of all the vampire romances around, this is the one that is the most similar to Twilight, as they are both set in high school and have a love triangle with a vampire who refuses to drink human blood because of ethical reasons.

There is also a TV series based on these books but they are not entirely the same. In the books, Elena is a rather vain, beautiful girl while in the TV series she was made much more likeable. Elena is the "Queen Bee" of her school and she enjoys it. While she starts off as being very superficial, she does grow as a person and becomes much more worthy of love later on.

The series was written with young adults or teenagers in mind and will probably not be appealing to older readers.

Vampire Kisses by

It's really a laugh a minute and if you enjoy humorous paranormal romance, this is the YA vampire series for you!

Blurb:

In her small town, dubbed "Dullsville," sixteen-year-old Raven -- a vampire-crazed goth-girl -- is an outcast.

But not for long...

The intriguing and rumored-to-be haunted mansion on top of Benson Hill has stood vacant and boarded-up for years. That is, until its mysteriously strange new occupants move in. Who are these creepy people -- especially the handsome, dark, and elusive Alexander Sterling? Or rather, what are they? Could the town prattle actually ring true? Are they vampires? Raven, who secretly covets a vampire kiss, both at the risk of her own mortality and Alexander's loving trust, is dying to uncover the truth.

Ellen Schreiber's spooky and stirring romance tells the story of two outsiders who fall in love in a town where conformity reigns, and ends with a shocking surprise.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead is much more serious and dark. It is not wholly focused on romance but instead more on coming-of-age and teen issues in school. It is also more adult than the other series listed here.

For example, the Dhampir (half-human, half-vampire) Rose feels worried sometimes by the threat of being sent away to a "blood whore" village where Dhampir women who are not Guardians live. Women there have affairs with full vampires because this is the only way their race, the Dhampirs, can be made. Note that these women are not literally whores. I do not recommend this series for very young girls but there are no explicit sex scenes.

Blurb:

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Got Fangs? by Katie Maxwell

Hilarious and light-hearted fun, Got Fangs by Katie Maxwell is a winner when it comes to humorous young adult vampire romance.

Blurb:

All sixteen-year-old Francesca Getti wants to do is have a normal life where she's one of the crowd, blending in so no one will know just how much of a freak she is. Dragged to Europe by her mother to join GothFaire, a travelling band of psychics, magicians, and assorted other oddities, Fran has to cope with not only the normal angst of always being a fish out of water, but also with her own fate as a psychometrist.

Enter one Moravian Dark One (referred to by most people as vampires) named Benedikt who claims Fran is the key to redeeming his soul, a mysterious horse who seems to have an involved past, an immortal friend who remembers what Mozart was like, and a demonologist who thinks he's Elvis, and you can understand why Fran despairs of ever fitting in.

Morganville Vampires Series by Rachel Caine

Disclosure: I have not read this series yet but it is highly recommended by Twilight fans and it sounds very interesting. Customer reviews in Amazon are also very positive and this is one series I plan to read in the near future. Actual review to be posted later.

Blurb:

College freshman Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation, where the popular girls never let her forget just where she ranks in the school's social scene: somewhere less than zero.
When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life. But they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood.
